How we test: protocol and current evidence status
Our requirements for a future hands-on outdoor review: real product access, original photos, defined measurements, repeatable conditions and honest limitations.
Current status: no physical product tests published
As of September 11, 2026, this publication has not completed original product testing. Launch articles are research-based guides. This page describes the protocol required before publishing a hands-on review; it is not a claim that the work has already happened.
Record the product and relationship
Identify the model, version, firmware where relevant, region, acquisition date and whether the item was bought, borrowed or supplied. Disclose any commercial relationship. Keep original dated photographs of the unit, identifying details and the relevant use conditions.
Define the question before measuring
State the intended use, criteria, units, equipment, environment, repetitions and stopping rules. Record raw observations and uncertainty. Describe failures and limits as well as advantages. Do not perform hazardous misuse, override safety systems or present informal tests as regulatory certification.
Make comparisons defensible
A comparative review needs at least two relevant alternatives, with evidence status stated for each. If only one product is physically examined, do not describe untested alternatives as measured results. Keep specifications, calculations and observations distinct.

- Cooler: starting conditions, contents, opening schedule and temperature logs.
- Wagon: load, wheel setup, terrain and repeated handling observations.
- Speaker: placement, source material, settings and runtime conditions.
- Smart bottle: documented handling routine and comparison with a defined reference measurement.
- Power station: load profile, outlet, conditions and delivered-energy method.
Publish enough to inspect the conclusion
Retain raw data, original photos and a dated method. Check current recalls and instructions. State which claims remain unverified. Use the test record template as an empty planning aid, not a completed test report.
